Exploring Our Globe's Top 6 Best Destinations To Visit In Colombia
Throughout this iconic country, there is the most magical array of destinations that every traveller needs to visit. From breathtaking formations of nature to world leading festivals, Colombia has something for everyone. We've compiled a list of our 6 favourites but as there are inevitably many notable omissions, we've added another country wide gallery. Check it out below and enjoy.
The Mavecure Hills
These ancient rocky hills in the deep jungles of eastern Colombia are hardly known outside of the country, but are definitely worth a visit. The surrounding jungles have been basically untouched by tourism and economic development, which has left summit views that are surreal.
Barranquilla Carnival
Colombia hosts the the world’s second largest carnival after Rio, the famous Barranquilla Carnival. Prepare yourself for a cultural experience like no other, including an amazing party (Tip: The carnival takes place in February and you need to make sure you book accommodation well in advance).
Bogotá
Colombia's capital city isn't exactly a secret but we still reckon this magical city is often underrated. With a growing foodie scene, plenty of live music and close by natural parks, this is definitely a location you should commit some time to.
La Guajira
Head to the vast deserts at the most northerly point of Colombia and prepare yourself to experience some of the country's magical beaches, unmatched scenery and kite surfing not found elsewhere in Colombia. If you want to head off the beaten track, check out Macuira National Park.
The Choco Pacific Coast
If you are a little bit like Tarzan at heart, you need to explore the wild jungles of Colombia's Pacific Coast region and prepare yourself for some of the greatest biodiversity on the planet. From June to October you can watch humpback whales, in September you can see sea turtles lay their eggs, and if you're not as nature orientated then it's also the perfect place to catch some surf.
San Agustín
San Agustín is a pretty little mountain town that offers some incredible archaeological sites that are must visits if you're after a culture hit. Add in the fact that the town has an excellent selection of hostels, great coffee, and incredible scenery, this is a great place to spend a few days.
